The post laser Balm is a revolutionary formula free of traditional petrolatum and preservatives but with Hyaluronic acids, Grape stem cells, Anti-oxidants,Anti- inflammatory and growth factor stimulating ingredients. The Shea butter and vegetable have semi occlusive properties to permit gas exchange and to provide hydration and oxygen for healing with Hyaluronic acid. HYMED Skin Care was developed to help wound healing after post laser, surgical procedures as an alternative to traditional occlusive petrolatum based post care by Brain Jegasothy,MD, formerly chair, Dept of Dermatology, University of Pittsburgh and Dr. Lingam, a rocket scientist with Ayurvedic medicine roots. As a research dermatologist, Dr. Jegasothy’s evaluation of irritants in skin care in 1988, led to the discovery that 99% of skincare had inflammatory and irritating ingredients that can cause free radical damage and hence premature aging as well as slowing down of wound healing process. This discovery resulted in Hylunia skin care in 1988 and Hymed in 1994.
The introduction of laser treatments in the nineties especially, carbon dioxide lasers needed an alternative to petrolatum based laser post care and irritant free post laser care. When the skin is wounded, healing process of epithelialization, collagen deposition, wound contraction and neo vascularization must happen smoothly without interruption. Any slowing down of the healing process results in complications and may not achieve the desired results. First step, Dr. Jegasothy and the team of physicians, scientists and toxicologist with a combined 200 years of experience did was to remove all preservatives, fragrances, dye, lanolin and inflammatory ingredients. The second thing, the team did was to incorporate anti-inflammatory and potent powerful antioxidants, healing and growth factor stimulating ingredients.

Dr. Jegasothy selected hyaluronic acid as the primary healing and hydrating agent. The team used high molecular weight ( 2 million Dalton) pharmaceutical-grade Hyaluronic Acid that holds 1000 times weight in water and saturate the skin with hydration and retains the essential dissolved oxygen for wound healing. Hyaluronic acid super hydrated improves texture, minimizes itching, improves desquamation, minimizes scabbing and Minimizes acne/ millia formation compared to occlusive petrolatum in laser resurfaced skin.
In addition, the team formulated Post Laser Balm with grape stem cells and Beta Glucan to activate growth factors prompting cellular renewal for wound healing. Beta glucan extracted from oats can communicate with immune system and can stimulate the macrophages which ingest and destroys pathogens. Macrophages releases cytokines which communicate with other immune cells. Furthermore, beta glucan stimulates the white blood cells to viruses and tumours and releases chemicals to destroy them. Beta glucan acts as anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant. University of Alberta ( Canada) studies have shown that beta glucan can help in wound healing and reduction in scaring.
Furthermore, Post Laser Balm was formulated with highly potent 50% concentrated polyphenol extracted from green tea , concentrated Turmeric extract and grape stem cells to help in wound healing process. Moreover, Australian plant extract Centipeda Cunninghami that is 3000 times more in anti-inflammatory and calendula extract were incorporated in the formulation to minimize inflammation, swelling and redness which starts immediately after Laser procedure and help to reduce wound healing time without post Laser care.
The plant derived olive leaf, citrus extracts, ethylhexylglycerin, Capryl Glycol and caprylhydroxamic acid are combined to help in product preservation without chemical preservatives such as paraben.
