5 ingredients in Hymed products that love your skin back

Did you know that inflammation is the root cause of premature skin aging?

Hymed Skincare’s founding team led by Dr. Jegasothy found that “Continuous Inflammation, including sub-clinical inflammation, is the root cause of premature aging and can also lead to chronic diseases.”

Deep dive..

Inflammation is the real culprit in this fight against premature aging of the skin. Free radicals, produced in the body naturally by exposure to environmental toxins (smoke, UV light, chemicals, etc.), trigger inflammation causing damage at the DNA level and accelerating the aging process. Therefore, preventing inflammation is the sole focus for Hymed Skincare.

Come, let us peek at 5 ingredients in Hymed products that are chock full of hydrating, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory goodness!

1. Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring polysaccharide (sugar) found throughout the connective tissue of the body. HA is the ingredient that gives the skin that plump and hydrated look. Its production in the body lessens as we age, leading to sagging of the skin, fine lines, and wrinkles, the trifecta! So, we look to supplement it with skin care products.

HA is a powerful, topical humectant in that it holds water molecules onto the surface of your skin to keep it intensely hydrated. It can bind up to 1000 times its weight in water! It maintains the elasticity and resilience of the skin. In addition, HA associates with lipids in skin surface cell membranes, enhancing its ability to deliver retained water and reducing trans epidermal water loss.

Well-moisturized skin has a lot of water content. However, water evaporates from the skin’s surface, and this should be prevented. HA stops this loss by slowing the rate at which the water evaporates.

HA Benefits in brief

  • Anti-aging
  • Moisturizing
  • Wound healing
  • Anti-wrinkle
  • Can treat eczema
  • Can treat facial redness

So, you may say a plethora of skincare companies use HA in their formulations. How does Hymed do it differently?

Hymed uses high-molecular-weight HA and in higher concentrations.  This acts as a heavy, wet blanket on the skin. It pushes water and encapsulated ingredients deep into the inner layers of the skin, ensuring all the beneficial ingredients (antioxidants, vitamins, plant peptides, etc.) reach their intended target, giving the skin a plump, healthy and hydrated look.

We set ourselves apart with our liquid crystal formulation, the key to our clinical results. Our unique formulation with hyaluronic acid solution helps water-soluble ingredients penetrate deep into the skin.

Hymed uses Vegan, plant-based HA, which comes from Padina Pavonica, an alga found in the waters off the coast of Malta. It helps synthesize HA in the skin. Conventional skincare products use HA derived from animals.

2. Vitamin C

Have a cold? Take Vitamin C!

This is the typical advice we have all received. And it works because Vitamin C wards off a cold which is an inflammatory condition of the body.

However, there is no surefire way to tell if this goodness directly benefits your skin.

Vitamin C, used as a topical ingredient, is one of the best anti-aging ingredients for maintaining a smooth, even tone, and glowy complexion.

Vitamin C’s anti-inflammatory properties neutralize free radicals that cause oxidative damage. It can also help reduce redness, creating a more even complexion. The reduction of dark spots, redness, and irritation makes for a clear, smooth skin tone.

Benefits in brief:

  • Brightening skin
  • Reduce redness
  • Reduce hyperpigmentation
  • Reduce the appearance of under-eye circles
  • Promote collagen production
  • Help prevent sagging skin
  • Protect against sun damage
  • Soothe sunburns
  • Help wound healing

The most used derivative is L- Ascorbic Acid.

What is L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)?

It is a derivative of Vitamin C and is antioxidant-rich. It is highly unstable and tends to break down rapidly. In the skin, L-Ascorbic acid:

  • stimulates collagen synthesis to firm the skin, reduce wrinkles and signs of premature aging
  • provides photoprotection
  • prevents UV immunosuppression
  • corrects hyperpigmentation

Hymed uses the purest form of L-Ascorbic Acid in its formulation. Because of its instability or oxidation, it is mixed with Vitamin E and A to make it more stable. The advantage is that Hymed products containing L-Ascorbic Acid need not be refrigerated or packaged in dark tinted bottles.

Turmeric

Simply put, the golden yellow stem (or root) of goodness! Turmeric has been used in India as medicine and in cooking for centuries. It is put on a pedestal in Ayurvedic medicine and cuisine. Golden Milk has been the Ayurvedic remedy for many ailments from time immemorial. The benefits of this golden beauty are innumerable.

In recent years, Turmeric has taken center stage in the West (Turmeric latte, anyone!) when not only its medicinal benefits but also its cosmetic benefits became aware. Yes, turmeric has been the go-to ingredient in all beauty preparations in India since ancient times.

Turmeric gets its health benefits primarily because of curcumin which has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Curcumin is what gives its signature golden yellow color and the anti-oxidant property. Turmeric in concentrated form is the most potent anti-inflammatory and bio-protectant ingredient that helps minimize inflammation and helps to protect skin cells at the DNA level, thereby slowing the aging process.

Benefits of Turmeric in Brief:

  • Preventing signs of premature aging
  • Glowing skin
  • Treating acne
  • Preventing dark circles
  • Moisturizes dry skin

At Hymed, we use this wonder for its anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant properties. Gentle treatment of turmeric removes the signature yellow color. This way, a higher percentage of turmeric is incorporated into our products without staining the skin (the one drawback) or compromising efficacy. It provides non-chemical UV protection and delivers a natural, golden glow to the skin. In concentrated form, turmeric helps to minimize dangerous free radical damage to the skin.

Moving on from the golden wonder to the green wonder. You guessed it!

Green Tea

Green tea is derived from the leaves and buds of the tea plant Camellia sinensis. The active components of green tea are polyphenols (also called catechins) that benefit the skin because of their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate) is the major catechin in green tea known for its many health benefits.

EGCG reduces sebum secretion that otherwise clogs pores and promotes bacterial growth. Sebum is an oily substance that your sebaceous glands secrete to moisturize your skin and hair.

EGCG is anti-androgenic and lowers lipid levels. Androgens are hormones that your body produces. If you have high or fluctuating levels of androgen, it can cause your sebaceous glands to produce greater amounts of sebum leading to clogged pores.

Benefits in brief:

  • Helps combat free radical damage caused by the sun
  • Slows or stops the development of acne.
  • Caffeine and tannins shrink blood vessels and decrease puffiness.
  • Helps minimize inflammation
  • Stimulates micro circulation
  • Aids in the absorption of ingredients
  • Helps in product penetration and efficacy
  • Aids in oxygen exchange

At Hymed, Green tea is used in combination with other antioxidant-rich ingredients like pomegranate, mangosteen, noni, etc., because they work synergistically. They help slow the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

Let’s come to the last but not the least of the ingredients.

Calendula

Also known as Pot Marigold, Calendula has been used as an herbal remedy for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Calendula extract is rich in beta-carotene, stearin, triterpenoids, flavonoids and coumarin, and other microelements. So, calendula is used in soothing preparations like baby wash and creams, and skin care products for sun-damaged skin. Calendula is known for its powerful wound-healing and skin-soothing properties. It is usually used externally for its antiseptic and healing properties in treating skin infections, cuts, punctures, scrapes, burns, and chapped or chafed skin or lips.

Benefits in Brief:

  • Rich in anti-oxidant, anti-fungal, anti-microbial properties
  • Promotes wound healing
  • Soothes sensitive skin or calms sun-damaged skin.
  • Minimizes inflammation
  • Repairs damage due to sun exposure and or free radicals
  • Stimulates micro-circulation in the skin.

At Hymed, calendula is used in association with other ingredients to prevent free radical damage to minimize inflammation that causes aging.

So, In Conclusion

To ward off premature aging, we have to prevent inflammation. This is the reason for Hymed’s birth and its core purpose. This is also the prime focus of Ayurveda which follows the adage that prevention is better than cure. So, we combined the two ancient knowledge and modern science to give you Hymed.
